Something different last weekend - went out with a mate in a pair of 5m expedition kayaks. My first time out, but the boat was so stable and the technique pretty easy to get to grips with so soon felt confident and was making decent progress. After a little while in the estuary we then headed out into the sea. The boats handle the waves beautifully when head-on, but the five metre length certainly presents a decent side to the waves when trying to turn, giving rise to a few 'moments'!

Weather was great, and whilst not the most extreme of sports, it certainly made for a really chilled out Saturday afternoon on the water. Nice just lifting out the paddle and drifting for a bit, and this in the shadows of Slain's Castle, the one that supposedly inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula!

Oh yeah, and to top it all off, from putting the boats in the water to lifting them out a couple of hours later, we were accompanied by a pair of seals who seemed as interested in watching us paddle away as were in watching them!
